Designed for single or multiple fat extractions, the Goldfisch fat extractor is recognized by the Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC) and is listed in AOAC methods. The six spring-loaded heaters easily raise and lower into position with one hand. Each 100-watt heater is embedded in a ceramic material to provide an even distribution of heat. Easily control the heat using an infinite variable heat controller. Switches on the panel each control two heaters. The efficient refluxing system reduces the extraction time from 16 hours to about four hours. The procedure involves placing the samples between the boiling solvent and a cold surface. Once the solvent heats up and solvent vapors rise, they come in contact with a cool metal surface. The vapors condense and drip through the sample held in the ceramic thimble, extracting the fat from the sample. The extraction process takes place in a single beaker, so there is no need to transfer samples and worry about sample loss.
