Then the block temperature automatically ramps to 380C over the course of 60 minutes and holds that temperature for an additional 30 minutes. At that point the block shuts off to end the digestion. Temperature, ramp rate, and hold times are easily programmed for other proceedures. Up to 20 steps can be incorporated for each digestion proceedure. To withstand the highly corrosive nature of the TKN proceedure, the high-temperature block is encased in 316 stainless steel. The tube rack and cooling rack are also 316 stainless steel. The controller is independent from the block and should be placed outside the fume hood to reduce the likelyhood of acid damage.
