When using rubber stoppers in combination with glass tubing or thermometers you have to be mindful that cuts from the glass can occur. Avoid common mistakes that occur doing this process?including cuts, breakage and contamination. Make sure there is a protective layer between your hands and the glass tubing or thermometer. This prevents any slipping mishaps as glass is notoriously tough to grip. If you?re inserting the tube into the stopper be sure to lubricate the glass tube. Also remember that glass tubing is less flexible than rubber stoppers. Glass breaks, rubber bends so forcing the glass tubing will only result in shattered glass.
